DIDDY shocked the world when Shyne joined him on stage during his performance at the 2022 BET Awards on June 26.

Shyne was signed to Diddy's Bad Boy record label but was dropped after a shooting incident in 1999, which tarnished their relationship.

What happened between Shyne and Diddy?

On December 27, 1999, Shyne, Diddy, and Diddy's then-girlfriend, Jennifer Lopez, were attending Club New York in Manhattan.

A conversation between Diddy and Brooklynite Matthew 'Scar' Allen got heated after a drink was spilled on him, causing Shyne to pull out a gun and fire shots into the area.

The shooting resulted in three people being injured.

Shyne, then 21, was convicted of attempted murder, assault, and reckless endangerment and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Diddy was found not guilty of gun charges stemming from the shooting.

By 2003, Shyne was dropped from Diddys' Bad Boy Records, and one year later, he publicly said Diddy betrayed him.

Are the two friends now?

During an appearance on an episode of Drink Champs, Shyne sat down with NORE and DJ EFN to discuss his career, politics, and life after prison.

Shyne, who left prison in 2009, opened up about his relationship with the Bad Bad Records CEO following the New York nightclub incident; he said: "I don't really blame that on him now as much as I did then.

"Because I did go through a stage of bitterness."

He continued: "But in retrospect, I blame it more on the lawyers that were advising him.

"Because his lawyers were there to secure a 'not guilty' verdict by any means."

Shyne added: "When your lawyers are misleading you and misguiding you, that's how everything fell apart.

"And he said that to me ... He said, 'I'm sorry. I shouldn't have never listened to those lawyers.' I forgave him."

What is Shyne doing now?

Shyne left the music industry to pursue a career in politics, following in his father's footsteps, Dean Barrow, who became Belize's first Black prime minister in 2008.

In April 2010, he was named Belize's musical goodwill ambassador and assisted in the planning of concerts for artists.

When he returned to his hometown, Mesopotamia, for his mother's 60th birthday, he was inspired to find meaning and purpose.

"It became clear to me when I observed the locals and what they were going through poverty and lack of opportunities.

"I started to reflect on my life and how fortunate I was to have such wonderful opportunities and to be able to pursue my ambition and dream of becoming a musician."

He added: "I began to think to myself, I should return to Belize and focus my energy on providing opportunities for the people in my community."
