General Hospital abruptly kills off 'random' character that fans ‘did not see coming’ as Dex’s life remains in danger

GENERAL Hospital fans have been left shocked and confused after a surprising character was killed off during Thursday’s episode.

Viewers have been focused this week on Dex Heller’s safety, but it turned out there was someone else in even greater danger.

Olivia Jerome (played by Tonja Walker) hadn’t appeared on General Hospital in years, but that didn’t stop the show from killing her off in the latest episode.

Though the character, who was the daughter of late mob boss Victor Jerome, was found dead, it all happened offscreen.

Fans learned she was killed during a prison transport attack and were shocked at the surprise mention of her name and her death.

Anna was asked to come down to Port Charles Police Department to hear a piece of news that had to be told in person rather than over the phone.

Once there, Jordan (Tanisha Harper) and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) made the surprising announcement.

“Prison transport was attacked today, and a prisoner is dead,” Jordan said. “Olivia Jerome.”

In 2017, Olivia was sent to prison after it was discovered she ordered the car bomb that was meant for her brother, Julian, but ultimately killed Sonny and Carly Corinthos’ son, Morgan.

Furious and mourning the loss of her son, Carly wanted Olivia killed, but Sonny had her arrested instead.

As she was sent away, Sonny warned that she would be murdered one day and she’d know he’d sent the killer as the last thing she’d hear would be his son’s name.

Viewers were confused over the sudden mention of Olivia and wondered why she had been killed off.

“Olivia Jerome, Sam’s auntie who tried to kill her and Alexis, was murdered in prison,” one fan tweeted. “Random AF.”

“Olivia Jerome is mentioned for the first time in years & it's to find out she's been killed in a Prison Transport Attack? Weird,” wrote another on X (formerly Twitter).

“Olivia Jerome,” a third viewer said, before adding they “did not see that coming!”

“Why did they kill off Olivia Jerome,” one upset fan asked. “She was an excellent villain. Always hoped for her return!!!”

"Maybe she’s Dex's mother,” one fan theorized.

Another wondered if Olivia possibly “faked her death and escaped.”

While viewers are now focused on Olivia's death, that doesn't mean there aren't other characters still in danger.

Fans have been fearing for Dex's life all week after he found himself with a gun pointed his way during Tuesday's episode.

Sonny learned Dex was lying to him and had been hired by someone to keep tabs on him, but Dex refused to reveal who that was.

As Sonny lifted his gun, he told Dex that he had given the wrong answer, and he seemed just about to shoot him when the episode ended.

The following day, fans found out Carly learned what Sonny was going to do and made it there in time to tell Sonny that Dex wasn't the traitor he thought him to be.

Though Dex was saved for the time being, viewers saw him in Thursday's episode unsure about his safety continuing.

He predicted there would be no way Sonny would let him live now that he deems him untrustworthy.

He and Joss are considering leaving town, but the two didn't decide by the time the latest episode ended, leaving their fates still up in the air.
