FROM the design to the price, there's a lot to think about when it comes to getting a tattoo.

And if you're hoping to avoid real pain, then according to one tattoo artist, the placement is also key.

The TikTok user, who posts under the handle @inkedera, shared a video where he revealed the most and least painful places to get an inking.

In the clip, he begins: "Great first tattoo spots and their pain level."

He then proceeds to explain that amongst the least painful places are the side of the neck and the spine, which he rates a 3/10, followed by the front bicep, which he gives 5/10 and the knee, 6/10.

Moving up the pain scale, the tattoo pro gives the low back a 7/10 and then the wrist and inside of the bicep both a solid 8/10.

But if you've got a rather low pain threshold, then you may want to avoid the following.

While the tattooist gives the calf and inside of the wrist a pain score of 9/10, he rates an inking by the shin and also the sternum as an almost unbearable 10/10.

He then warns that one area is so painful, it's actually off the scale.

"Fingers 15/10 - no thanks!" he quips.

The video has since gone viral and received endless comments - with tattoo fans all offering their verdicts based on their own experiences.

"My spine tattoo hurt 10x worse than my wrists and any other area on my body," argued one.

A second penned: "My first was inside wrist, pain level was like 1/10, getting my ears pierced had more pain."

A third wrote: "Me, watching this, getting a sternum tattoo tomorrow."

Meanwhile, a fourth noted: "Uh.. as my first tat was a spine / back piece i can confirm it’s a solid 7/10 MINIMUM."

Another commented: "Lmao shin 10/10. I almost saw Jesus!"

And one more added: "DID HE SAY 3/10 ON THE SPINE I ALMOST PASSED OUT."
