GETTING the tattoo you’ve always dreamed of can sometimes become a nightmare.

It’s not just out-of-fashion ink or break-ups that make three in four Brits regret their ink - but botched designs, too.

As a result, tattoo-wearers are forking out hundreds on laser tattoo removal.

A pricey solution which Nadya Persaud is currently going through.

The executive producer and founder of Creativs Label has spent £700 on six laser removal sessions after friends and family think her wrist tattoo looks like something extremely rude.

Nadya, 36, from West Norwood, south east London, says: “I would always get asked if my tattoo was a pair of ovaries or men’s private parts.

“It was actually meant to be a pair of ballet shoes.

“I was 25 at the time and thought it was a good idea as I had just retired as a professional dancer.

“I already had a star tattoo on my wrist that I fell out of love with and wanted to cover, so I decided to get my ballet slippers over the top.

“I went to a tattoo shop in south west London - the artist had bad vibes but in my head I still imagined it would look good and remind me of my love for ballet.

“Once it was finished, I knew straight away it was awful and had a feeling I would end up looking into tattoo removal later down the line.

“I had just paid £120 - but somehow knew it would eventually cost hundreds more to have it fixed.

“I decided to go back and ask him to make it more vibrant and neaten up the lines but this didn’t help and just made it darker - the vision of what I had in my head didn’t transfer to reality.

“Though I knew it looked bad, I never realised what else it resembled.

“A few months later, a random guy pointed out that it looked like a men’s part.

I definitely realised I had made a mistake, I had chosen the wrong tattoo AND artist. More and more friends said it looked like a pair of ovaries - I never found them rude, just honest.

“That’s when I definitely realised I had made a mistake, I had chosen the wrong tattoo AND artist.

“After that, more and more friends said it looked like a pair of ovaries - I never found them rude, just honest.

“I just owned it as it was a decision I made, so I had to accept it.

“I don’t have a complex about it and I had no problem explaining what it was supposed to be.

“But I still knew that one day it needed sorting.

“In the meantime, I tried covering it up with my watch, but this just attracted more attention to it.

“In 2019, I looked into laser hair removal at Pulse Light Clinic in Central London.

“While I was there, I noticed they did laser tattoo removal so I had a consultation at the same time.

“Unfortunately because of my skin tone, I was told they would only be able to remove the black - the red would maybe fade or I would have to look into another cover up.

“The price for six sessions was about £700 - so far, I’ve had four sessions with huge gaps in between because of the pandemic.

“The results are incredible - but it is so painful.

“I literally hit a high key note while the laser goes over my ink, luckily it only lasts about 10-15 seconds because it is not a huge tattoo. It’s worth it though.

“Now it’s so faded, no one can work out what it is unless I tell them.

“It was supposed to be a nice reminder and something that was personal to me - but I’ve just ended up spending a small fortune trying to get rid of it.”
