FORMER NBA star JJ Redick has refused to get caught up in a debate over players not on the court during a live game pre-season game broadcast.

And Redick even told his producer over the air: "This isn't First Take."

Redick, 39, spent 15 years in the NBA before retiring in 2021.

He joined ESPN as an analyst later in the year and has recently appeared on First Take.

The former guard was commentating on the Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics early basketball game.

A graphic flashed up on the screen looking at some of the notable duos for the 2023-24 season.

Damian Lillard featured on there alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo after his blockbuster trade from the Portland Trail Blazers.

Also on the list were the likes of LeBron James and Anthony Davis with the Lakers, alongside Boston duo Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

Phoenix Suns' Kevin Durant and Devin Booker also featured, as did Denver's Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray.

Redick claims he was pressed to select which double act would have the best season.

But he said on the broadcast: "Our producer John is in my ear trying to get me to name the best duo.

"I'm not doing it - this isn't First Take guys.

"It's an NBA game and I'm not doing it today."

The NBA season begins on October 24, and teams are currently fine-tuning their preparations in the pre-season.

Redick has often gone toe to toe with Stephen A. Smith on First Take when it comes to basketball.

But the ex-NBA star took a different approach on a live game broadcast by refusing to engage in debate.
