West Ham in transfer battle to sign Jonathan Bamba despite £16.5m Lille winger failing to score this season

WEST HAM are interested in signing goalless Lille winger Jonathan Bamba but will face competition from a host of clubs, reports say.

The Hammers looked at signing Bamba last summer after failing to land Jesse Lingard after his successful six-month loan spell.

A move failed to materialise for the Ligue 1 winner and he remained in France.

But according to Gazzetta dello Sport, West Ham could look to revisit a deal for Bamba, who hasn't found the target this term.

The tricky winger is believed to have an asking price of just £16.5millon.

Bamba isn't short of suitors though, and the Hammers could face a fight to sign the Frenchman from clubs in Germany, Italy and Spain.

Bayer Leverkusen, Atalanta and Sevilla are rumoured to also be interested in acquiring Bamba's services.

The 25-year-old was in London on Tuesday night, playing against European champions Chelsea in the Champions League.

Lille fell to a 2-0 first leg defeat in their Round of 16 clash.

And Bamba started the game but failed to make an impact for the visitors.

The two sides meet again in France on March 16.
