ACTOR Jordi Vlasuso announced he is leaving The and the Restless in March 2022.

The primetime show is an American soap opera that follows the lives of the Newmans and the Abbotts.

Why is Young & Restless star Jordi Vilasuso leaving the show?

Jordi Vilasuso first took on the role of Rey Rosales on The Young and the Restless in 2018.

The news that he would be leaving the show was first announced in a post on Vilasuso's Instagram page in March.

"Playing Rey Rosales and being part of the Rosales family was a beautiful chapter in my career," Vilasuso wrote.

"I was proud to represent my culture on daytimes #1 drama and work with an incredible cast and crew that I will miss dearly. ... As this door closes, others will and have opened."

The news came as a shock to Vilasuso and his wife, Kaitlin, as he has just signed another contract with the show in October 2021.

“I had re-signed back in October for another three years,” Vilasuso told Soaps in Depth. “But in these contracts, there are six-month intervals where the show can decide not to re-sign you for the next six months. So that’s what happened.”

Vilasuso said he felt like he should have known the end of his time on the show was near.

“Maybe I should have seen the writing on the wall. The scripts that I was given were very minimal,” he said.

At this time, it remains unclear why the show let the star go but Vilasuso said he has no hard feelings and "nothing but love for the show."

He expressed that the sky is the limit for his next endeavors, and said, "We have to embrace change and see what happens. Because it’s an adventure at the end of the day.

"If we had all the answers, it would be kind of boring!”

When is Jordi Vilasuso's final air date?

Vilasuso's character, Rey Rosales, made his final exit from the show on April 19.

It came amidst a fiery, head-on collision as his car was run off the road when Victoria Newman's car swerved and hit a tree.

She was rendered unconscious and when she is revived by Ashland Locke, Victoria remembers another car was involved in the crash and demands to know what happened to the driver.

Locke tells her there was nothing he could do, the driver was dead at the scene, adding, “It was someone you know… Rey Rosales."

As Vilasuso exited the show, he reflected back on the early days of stepping into Rey Rosales' character.

Rosales's ability to be understanding and walk away from altercations was something that Vilasuso said he had to get used to.

“Even as an actor playing this role, I had to kind of swallow my pride a little bit and be like, ‘Why is he being so understanding?'” Vilasuso told Soaps She Knows. “I really had to do some soul-searching.”

As Rosales battled for Sharon and tried to get her to see there was another option to returning to her ex, Vilasuso said "telling passionate storylines" allowed him to grow as an actor.

“... With characters fighting for what they believe in, I was super excited to be able to do that. It’s got so many layers," he said.
